Located in a commanding position right on one of Australia’s most sought-after holiday coastal destinations, this original 1920s beach cottage underwent a total renovation.
With an idyllic position, direct access to the beach, open-plan living, amazing 180-degree ocean views, and stylish design, the gardens were designed and built to complement the outstanding coastal retreat.
The garden’s overall design needed to be resilient to withstand the sometimes harsh conditions of the coastal environment. The careful plant selection was in keeping with the modern simplistic coastal style, with emphasis on natural materials and architectural elements of the house.
A pallet of subtle, low-maintenance native shrubs, grasses and succulent groundcovers were used on the ocean side. An enclosed tropical-influenced courtyard garden was planted with a mix of ferns and sweet gingers. The front entry made use of a stunning existing Frangipani tree, passing a tier pond to complete the look for this unique slice of paradise.
